In yet another complication in the murder of senior journalist J Dey,the Mumbai police control room received an anonymous call on Saturday, informing them that it was planned and executed by terrorist outfit Indian Mujahideen (IM).
Sources said the call was received around 6 pm and the caller did not identify himself. He reportedly told the police that the outfit had hired shooters from Kashmir, who then came to Mumbai to carry out the job. The call has been traced to Yemen. We will investigate to verify the information given by the caller, an officer in the police control room said. A senior crime branch officer,on condition of anonymity, confirmed the details and said investigations were on.
Dey was shot dead by four unidentified gunmen at Hiranandani Complex near D Mart,Powai,on June 11. The police had,on Wednesday, detained three men in this connection but later released them. They had also released the sketches of men who were reportedly involved in the shootout. However, they have not received any leads in the case even a week after the incident. Though Home Minister RR Patil had said organised crime was behind the murder, the police are probing all angles in the case.
