IAC members take out rally,say numbers ‘don’t count’

Playing down the poor turnout for activist Anna Hazare’s latest agitation in New Delhi,the Mumbai arm of the India Against Corruption movement held a rally of around 2,000 people from Andheri to Azad Maidan.

Playing down the poor turnout for activist Anna Hazare’s latest agitation in New Delhi,the Mumbai arm of the India Against Corruption movement held a rally of around 2,000 people from Andheri to Azad Maidan. At the South Mumbai venue,India Against Corruption (IAC) member Mayank Gandhi told the crowd,“The number doesn’t count,but the desire for a corruption-free country does.”

Team Anna’s rally in Mumbai started from Andheri West with nearly 1,500 Anna supporters in tow. The rally,which started around 1.30pm,was en route the western suburbs including Santacruz,Bandra,Shivaji-park and Worli. Several IAC volunteers joined the rally before it reached the venue around 6 pm.

The movement found support from actor Anupam Kher at Andheri. ‘

He voiced his opinion regarding corruption and pledged his support for the movement.

The proceedings of the Delhi agitation were directly screened live for the supporters in Mumbai. Addressing the public,Gandhi spoke about the referendum policies followed by other countries. He spoke about media support that has dwindled along with the numbers at the event even as he called in people to support “Anna’s ideology” and sacrifice a week for the country.

Minor traffic glitches were seen along the way due to the rally. Nearly 40 buses,200 cars and bikes joined the rally,with supporters waving flags and slogans along the city roads.
