Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday said that when it comes to making tea, he is unbeatable. “Yes, I can state with absolute certainty, that I can make the best ‘chai’.”

“Mind you, I am not only a great foodie but I have also tried my hands at cooking. There are some preparations of mine which have been certified as delicious,” Fadnavis said in a conversation with well-known young actor, Jitendra Joshi at the 68th foundation day of Loksatta, the Marathi newspaper of the Express Group. From his early childhood to his college days, Fadnavis spoke about his passion for reading, cinema, poetry, songs and writing.

Fadnavis said that he was a quiet boy during his school days, “Since I was tall, I was always made to sit on the last bench. I remained a last bencher till my college days. Yes, there are some pranks and mischief which I have indulged in during college days. But overall, I have always carried the image of a “good boy”.
Recalling the major influence of his late father Gangadharrao Fadnavis which shaped his political career, he said, “ I must admit I am not even ten percent of what he had achieved in his life. It amazes me at the tremendous goodwill he earned. My father died of cancer. From Yashwant Chavan to Sharad Pawar all of them would come and meet him even during his last days. Pawar had even indicated that we should take him abroad for treatment. But my father always said, “I will avail whatever medical treatment is possible in my country. I have lived and worked to my best. If death is knocking the doors, let it come in my own country.”

As for his mother, Fadnavis said that she has never indulged in politics. “But her ability to judge a political situation always proves right. She has an inherent wisdom which never goes wrong.” While admitting that he he loves to drive, Fadnavis said, “I would take to wheels the whole night. I would often drive between Nagpur and Mumbai for almost 13 to 16 hours. I admit at times my friends would plead for a break which was not easy.”

Later, Fadnavis hummed one of his favourite numbers Rishta Dil Se Dil Ke Aitbar Ka.
