Mumbai Police Crime Branch questioned Jaiprakash Singh on the relationship between son and mother and quizzed him,for the first time,on his son Raghuveer’s alleged involvement in the murder of his mother Sandhya. She had gone missing on December 13 last year and her partial skeleton was found on Palm Beach Road on January 28.
The Crime Branch Monday recorded a fresh statement of Jaiprakash. Sandhya was the sister of musician brothers Jatin-Lalit and yesteryear Bollywood stars Sulakshna and Vijeta Pandit.
Jaiprakash, who is an officer with the Central Excise department, was issued a summons by Crime Branch recently.
Police found that on the day of her disappearance,Sandhya had left with a bag full of cash and not jewellery as was earlier suspected. Statements from several independent witnesses also indicated that Sandhya had expressed unwillingness to leave the cash in the house owing to Raghuveer’s drug habit, police said.
“We asked Jaiprakash about the jewellery, which he had earlier said was ancestral. This time, however,he said he was not sure about the jewellery and that we should ask Sandhya’s brothers and sisters about it. He said he does not know about the cash,” said a Crime Branch officer.
The Crime Branch has sought permission from Vashi court to subject Raghuveer and his girlfriend to lie detector test, brain mapping and narco analysis. The court is expected to deliver its decision on the matter Wednesday.
