The Mumbai police crime branch,investigating black-marketing of tickets for Sachin Tendulkar’s last Test match,have arrested the main suspect,Abdul Rehman Phatani,a memberof Islam Gymkhana.
“Phatani had taken 22 tickets allotted to members of the Gymkhana. He sold five tickets for Rs 4,800 each and the remaining for Rs 5,500 when the actual price was Rs 1,000. Phatani owns a clothing store in Dongri,” said a police officer.
Police are also on the lookout for some members of Bombay Gymkhana and Garware Club. “We have summoned the club secretaries,” said the officer.
Sources said Rehman,an avid snooker player,met Ajay Jadhav,one of the three suspects arrested earlier,who assists snooker players at Islam Gymkhana.
Jadhav contacted Premnath,who has the same job description at Bombay Gymkhana. “A probe is on,” the officer added.
Two more cases registered
MUMBAI: City police officers,while standing outside Wankhede Stadium,found that four ‘ushers’ were collecting tickets from those leaving the stadium after Tendulkar’s dismissal and re-selling them.
“We detained Deepak Shetty,Uttam Munj,Mallikarjun Rathod and Zafar Khan,who were handed over to Marine Drive police. They were later released on bail of Rs 12,500,” said a police officer.
