The Bombay High Court last week rejected the anticipatory bail application of Sandeep Jain,a member of the Cricket Club of India (CCI),in a case pertaining to 11 memberships allegedly granted fraudulently.

Jain was accused of conniving with Khaled Kazi, who was in-charge of the club’s information technology (IT) department,to aid the membership of 11 people.

While turning down his anticipatory bail application,Justice A H Joshi said,“Jain has seconded the membership proposals of various applicants and children of three members, who were inducted by use of fraudulent act and forgery…”

A chargesheet has been filed against Kazi. Jain moved the court and contended that the members, who were added as a result of the alleged forgery of computerised data, were expelled and hence,no loss was caused to the club.

“The seconding of three proposals (for membership) by present applicant (Jain) cannot be regarded as sheer coincidence…..The said introduction only corroborates the applicant’s complicity to initial act of forgery as abater and conspirator,” the court wrote in its 13-page order.
