The Bombay High Court on Wednesday issued notices to four men acquitted in the 2007 case of kidnapping and murder of 16-year-old Adnan Patrawala,in an appeal filed by the deceased teenager’s father.

Aslam Patrawala (48) challenged the acquittal of accused through his appeal filed on April 15,ahead of the state government that was left red-faced after the trial court found no substance in case of the Mumbai police accusing the four men of the crime. The appeal was filed under the amended section 372 of the Criminal Procedure Code that gives the victim of a crime or his/her kin the right to contest an acquittal without depending on the state government that otherwise prosecutes the accused. However, the state government subsequently also filed an appeal against the four.
