Harbour line services on the Western Railway’s Mumbai Central Division were partially disrupted on Friday afternoon after a fire broke out in shanties adjacent to the UP Harbour line between Mahim and Bandra. The incident occurred around 12.15 pm, prompting officials to immediately disconnect the overhead electric supply as a safety precaution.
According to the Western Railway, the train movements were regulated to ensure that no service passed near the affected stretch until the situation was fully secured. Officers clarified that there was no risk to passengers or trains, as services had already been held back at safe distances from the fire site.
Fire brigade teams and railway personnel were deployed to contain the situation and assess any potential damage to railway equipment, said an officer. As of late afternoon, restoration work and safety inspections were underway.
Western Railway said passenger safety remained the priority throughout the incident. “Our teams acted immediately by cutting power and regulating trains to prevent any danger. All passengers are safe, and services will resume normalcy as soon as clearance is received,” said Vineeth Abhishek, Chief Public Relation Officer, Western Railway.
Further updates are expected once the overhead equipment is certified fit for operations.
