The Mumbai Police on Friday arrested two brothers in connection with a burglary in a jewellery store earlier this month, where gold jewellery worth Rs 2 crore had been stolen from a jewellery store in Goregaon. The elder of the two brothers allegedly planned the burglary for two months and then got his younger brother to execute it, the police said. According to the police, the arrested accused have been identified as Nilesh and Kishan Karol, both natives of Udaipur in Rajasthan.

The police said that Nilesh had been working with the Sarvodaya Jewellers in Goregaon for the past five years, and decided to rob Mayur Jewellers, the store next to his workplace, in order to start his own jewellery store. “On the intervening night of March 20 and March 21 this year, Mayur Jewellers store was broken into and jewellery worth Rs 2 crore, was stolen. We have recovered 5.4 kg of gold jewellery, worth around Rs 1.32 crores from the accused, “ said ACP (Crime) KMM Prasanna. Nilesh and Kishan have been remanded to police custody till April 4.
