Adani group chairman Gautam Adani met Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray at the latter’s residence Matoshree in Mumbai Wednesday.
Incidentally, the meeting between the two comes on a day when the Maharashtra cabinet cleared the proposal to again seek tenders for the Dharavi redevelopment project with additional benefits.
The previous Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government led by Thackeray had held three meetings to put the much-delayed project on track. Adani group’s name was in the reckoning for this project since then.
Thackeray in his speech at Nesco ground Wednesday evening mentioned the state government’s decision on Dharavi redevelopment. “Making Dharavi a key financial hub of the country is our aim. Let me assure you all that Shiv Sena will make it into reality,” he said.
According to sources, the meeting between Adani and Thackeray, who share cordial relations, was only to exchange greetings. The Adani group has some of its biggest commercial interests in Mumbai, such as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International airport which is being run by the Adani group while Adani Electricity Mumbai Limited (AEML) is one of the key power supplying companies in Mumbai.
Sena-led by Thackeray controls one of the biggest unions in the airport.
