A metropolitan court on Wednesday remanded two persons arrested by the Santacruz police for the gangrape of a 24-year-old married woman in police custody till June 26. Police have launched a hunt for the remaining six accused. Police said the absonding accused,all residents of Shastri Nagar,had fled the area as soon as they learnt that a case has been registered against them. They said many teams were at work to nab them. Meanwhile,at least 300 residents of Shastri Nagar protested in front of the Santacruz police station on Wednesday in favour of those arrested. Police had to lathicharge the mob. Pratap Dighavkar,DCP (zone 9),said,We had to refrain the mob as they were trying to overpower the police officers . However,no injuries were reported.
In December last year,one of the accused aware of her husbands work timing raped her at knife-point and threatened to harm her kids… Seven accomplices then raped her on several occasions. The matter came to light on Monday when the husband noticed a man entering their house, police said.
