Starting January next year, the BMC will roll out a facility for residents to access birth and death certificates within three days through an online website.
While the move will definitely ease a family’s trouble to personally visit their ward office to attain a certificate, it will also speed up the whole process.
“Earlier, a hospital would send us a report after a birth or if there was any death registered with them. After the report would reach the health office, a check would be done to ensure all facts are right and only then the certificate would be issued by ward office,” said Dr Padmaja Keskar, Executive Health Officer at BMC. The project, starting on January 1, will first cover all public hospitals, including civic-run maternity homes and tertiary care centers. The program will slowly expand to all private hospitals.
A person has to log onto BMC website, enter either the receipt number or details of parents to access the certificate. It can then be printed out.
