The Kurla (East) police arrested four men on Monday for allegedly strangling a 68-year-old man after getting into a fight with his son in the area on Sunday.
The police had initially filed an accidental death report in the case as they were under the impression that the deceased,Sharafat Abdul Gafar, had suffered a heart attack after seeing his son fighting. However,on Monday, his post mortem report revealed that he had been strangulated.
Gafar stayed at Qureshi Nagar in Kurla (East) with his family. According to police officers,a fight broke out when Gafars son Sabresh (24) insisted that his neighbour Mojimulla Khan lower the volume of his music player as it was disturbing him.
Mojimulla took offence and got into a heated argument with Sabresh, during which he physically attacked Sabresh, said the police. Both Sabresh and Mojimulla were injured during the tussle. The police said Gafar had already suffered three heart attacks, and it was initially reported that he fainted on seeing his son being beaten up.
Based on the post-mortem report,we have added the charge of murder (Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code) against Mojimulla and three of his accomplices, said Qaiser Khalid, additional commissioner of police (East Region).
