For Chavdas, festive season takes tragic turn

The Chavda family, which stayed in the fourth floor of the Babu Genu building ,had enough reasons to rejoice this festive season.

The Chavda family, which stayed in the fourth floor of the Babu Genu building ,had enough reasons to rejoice this festive season. The family had been busy shopping for their daughter Jamuna’s wedding this Diwali, while their son Anil was to join BMC in two weeks as a Class IV employee.

Anil,Jamuna and their mother Leela Chavda were killed when the market building collapsed Friday. Leela Chavda’s body was pulled out of the rubble in the evening. Her husband was not at home when the building collapsed.

“Anil was a fun-loving person and was happy that his sister’s marriage had been fixed. The family had planned that that once Jamuna got married, they would start looking for a bride for Anil as he was their only son,” said Pradeep Jadhav,Anil’s friend. Jadhav, who has known Anil since his childhood remembers him as a hardworking person and a good son.

“My relatives are Anil’s neighbours and I have been coming to the building since I was a child,” said Jadhav, adding that now all he has left are the memories of his young friend.
