The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is planning to build a flyover on the stretch between Bandra Terminus and Western Express Highway with a view to easing vehicular traffic on the narrow road.
Officials from the agency have already held two meetings to discuss the proposal and recently started work on preparing a feasibility report.
We have taken up this proposal for consideration at the behest of the Western Railway, which will fund the whole flyover. It is still in the initial stages of planning, said a senior MSRDC official.
As per the proposal, the flyover, which will be 1.5 km long, will start from the Bandra Terminus and end on the Western Express Highway just before the Vakola flyover.
We hope the flyover will also ease traffic at Kalanagar junction in Bandra, the official said.
During peak hours, the traffic density at the Kalanagar is high as motorists heading for Bandra-Kurla Complex,Sion,Kurla,Dharavi,Eastern Express Highway and CST via Dr Ambedkar Road take a left from there to use the Sion-Bandra link road.
There was already a plan to build a flyover from Kherwadi to the Western Express Highway. We are trying to integrate the design in this flyover, the official said.
The MSRDC,however,is yet to work out a detailed alignment and the total cost of the flyover.
