Fire at 7-storey building in Lokhandwala; none injured

A minor fire broke out in the ground-plus-six storey Nebula Building situated in Andheri’s Lokhandwala complex on Tuesday evening. No injuries or casualties were reported.

Soon after the incident was reported at 7.42 pm, the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) were set into service. According to the civic body’s preliminary reports, the fire was reported on the second floor of the building and remained confined therein.

While the fire was doused at 8.11 pm, locals echoed concerns over the lack of a fire station in the neighbourhood.

“The nearest fire station is situated in Irla on the south end and Goregaon, on the North bound side. Despite two decades of reservation at Chitrakoot Grounds for fire station, the station hasn’t been started in that location. Once it is introduced, it will cater to 5 lakh residents who are at risk now,” said Dhaval Shah, director of Lokhandwala Oshiwara Citizen’s Association (LOCA).
