A fire broke out in a 15-storey residential building in Marol Wednesday morning. The 10th and 11th floors of Raj Paradise on Military Road were gutted. While there were no casualties,it took two hours to douse the fire. Four fire engines, two aerial ladders, three water tankers and an ambulance reached the spot after BMC received a call.

“The 10th and 11th floors were engulfed in flames by the time we reached the top. Fortunately, the building had been evacuated and no one was hurt,” said fire official S B Kharbade.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained and an inquiry will be initiated to check if the building was flouting fire safety norms.

The Mumbai Fire Brigade had issued notices to 1,242 highrises from March 2012 to December 2012 for flouting fire safety norms. However, less than a quarter of these took corrective measures, said officials.
