Raj Kanwar,one of the most successful filmmakers of the 1990s,passed away in Singapore on Friday.

Raj Kanwar,one of the most successful filmmakers of the 1990s,passed away in Singapore on Friday. He was 50. He gave Shah Rukh Khan,Priyanka Chopra and Lara Dutta their big screen breaks and paired Aishwarya Rai with Abhishek Bachchan for the first time in Dhai Akshar Prem Ke. He had been suffering from a kidney ailment due to acute diabetes and was in Singapore for treatment Kanwar leaves behind his wife and two sons. Shatrughan Sinha’s son,actor Luv Sinha,whose debut film Sadiyaan was Kanwar’s last project,said the filmmaker had been unwell for many months now. “We used to stay in touch off and on. The last time I met him was on my dad’s birthday in December,” he said. Kanwar has directed Khan in Deewana,Anil Kapoor and Sridevi in Laadla and Judaai,Akshay Kumar and Chopra in Andaaz ,Sunny Deol in Jeet and Sanjay Dutt in Daag – The Fire . Many of these actors expressed their grief on micro-blogging site Twitter. Khan tweeted,“My friend Raj Kanwarji passed away. The impermanence of life,makes one feel so helpless. May his soul rest in peace. Aisi Deewangi..miss u sir.”
