The Aarey police on Thursday morning arrested three more men in connection with the attack on film set contractor Shrikant Shinde, who was shot at and injured at Film City studio in Goregaon recently. The alleged mastermind of the crime, Suresh Gaikwad, was picked up in the evening from near the Jogeshwari Railway station late in the evening, by officials of the Anti Extortion Cell of the Mumbai Police Crime Branch, after they got a tip off about his whereabouts.

Shinde, who erects sets on contract at the studio, was shot at by bike-borne assailants on May 22, and the police had subsequently arrested Sumit Talekar, Jugal Dodiya and Yogesh Kokane in this connection. “On Thursday, we received a tip off that three more accused in the case, including those who actually executed the attack, would be coming to Goregaon. Acting on the information, we laid a trap and picked up the three accused at around 10 am on Thursday,” said Additional Commissioner of Police Fattesinh Patil, north region.

The three accused arrested in the morning have been identified as Sandip Khairnar (31) who shot at Shinde, Satish More (22), who was driving the motorbike, and Jitu Dhivar (32), who was involved in the planning of the attack, said officers. The three suspects were produced in court on Thursday afternoon and remanded in police custody till June 8, the police said.

“Gaikwad had met Shinde around two months ago and told him that he needed help securing contracts for erecting sets at the studio. Shinde had at the time insulted him and driven him away, and Gaikwad planned the crime to avenge the insult,” said an officer with the Aarey police. Shinde is still being treated for his injuries at the Nanavati hospital and the police will record his statement once he is fit to give one.
