The 62-year-old father of a man accused of molesting a woman died by suicide at his residence in Mumbai on Tuesday night.
Following the death, the police registered an abetment to suicide case against the woman’s father, brother, and another relative based on the statement of the deceased’s family members.
In her statement to the police, the daughter of the deceased stated that her brother and the complainant woman, who stays in the same building as them, were in a relationship, and the family of the woman forced her to lodge a false complaint after they came to know about the relationship two weeks ago. She also alleged that the relatives of the complainant woman beat her brother up before the complaint was lodged.
The man accused of molestation has been missing since the complaint was filed.
The deceased’s daughter complained that the woman’s family has been threatening them to ensure that her brother surrenders to the police.
“We are currently investigating allegations from both sides, as their versions of events are different. Based on our findings, we will decide on the course of action,” the officer added.
