The Navghar police arrested a 30-year-old man on Tuesday for allegedly abetting the suicide of the 28-year-old woman, who jumped into the Bhayender creek along with her five-year-old son on Monday afternoon.

The police said Yashodha Rana, in her suicide note, accused Yusuf Valsania, her former employer, of blackmailing and threatening her.

“We have arrested Valsania based on the suicide note of Rana under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code (abetment to suicide). We will now record Valsania’s statement,” said Chandrakant Joshi, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Thane rural).

The police are also recording the statements of Rana’s family members to ascertain the reason behind her (Rana) killing her son.

On Monday afternoon, locals at Bhayender saw bodies of a woman and a child floating in the creek, and informed the police.

The officers then traced the identity of the woman and managed to reach her residence. The officers also found a suicide note in her bedroom written in Hindi. “The note stated that she was committing suicide as she was harassed by her former employer.

Rana had given Valsania her gold chain as he needed money, however, when she asked him to return the money, Valsania threatened to defame her. The woman, in her note, also stated that her family members were not responsible for the step,” said Joshi.
