EVElectric vehicles (EVs) travelling on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, the Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Mahamarg, and Atal Setu (Mumbai Trans Harbour Link) will receive a toll fee waiver within the next eight days. Also, a process will be initiated to refund the tolls collected from EVs on these three roads since August 22, provided that owners submit proof of payment and receipts.

Legislative Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar issued the directives Wednesday after minister Dada Bhuse admitted to toll deductions despite the Maharashtra Electric Vehicles Policy 2025 prohibiting such actions.

During the question hour, legislators raised questions about the toll fee waiver for EVs announced for the three roads. Bhuse, who was replying on behalf of Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, said the state announced the EV policy on May 23 and implemented it from August 22.

“To ensure the toll fee waiver. The FASTag for EVs must be registered with VAHAN (the database) and included in the toll system to qualify for the waiver. The implementation began three months ago. There have been some instances where toll was deducted. We are trying to speed it up and implement the process effectively,” said Bhuse.

Speaker Narvekar intervened in the discussion, saying the implementation of the policy began in August. “If even a single EV is being charged toll, then it is illegal,” he said.

Narvekar directed the minister to ensure that the entire system is set up within eight days. “The state is promoting EVs and has committed to waiving toll fees for the public through its policy. No EV should be charged a toll for the next eight days. Also, a system should be established to refund any toll fees that have already been collected from EV owners,” he said.

Bhuse replied that the government will ensure the implementation of the directives given by Speaker Narvekar.
