As per the police complaint, the five-star hotel played several hit movie songs at their premises between March 2021 and December 2022 without procuring a mandatory ‘On Ground Performance’ licence from the complainant company.

Novex Communication Private Ltd has been authorised by reputed film production and music companies for ‘On Ground Performance’ of their films and songs.

In 2021, the company discovered that the hotel was playing songs of movie production houses and music companies that have authorised it for copyright distribution management. After this, the company’s sales officer, Rishi Singh, sent a legal notice to the hotel.

Despite the notice, the hotel continued to play the songs of the film production house and music companies without the licence.

The complainant then filed a complaint with the EOW alleging that the hotel played songs for commercial programmes and events for financial gains and caused losses worth Rs 2.70 lakh.

The FIR was registered at the Airport police station on Wednesday and the CB control unit of EOW took over the investigation. EOW DCP (STF) M Pandit confirmed that an FIR has been registered against the hotel for cheating and Copyright Act violations. “We are checking if similar violations were done by the hotel in the past. Further investigation is on,” DCP Pandit said.
