The Bombay Natural History Society’s Conservation Education Centre (CEC) will organise an Eco Warrior Leadership Camp from April 27 to 29 to give teenagers a taste of working for forest conservation and thereby encourage them to take up local environmental issues.

The camp,a first on such a theme by CEC,will be held from 9 am to 5 pm on these days. The participants, aged 15 to 18,will be involved in conservation activities around CEC located in Film City,Goregaon and the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP).

“The participants will be involved in activities like cleaning forest trails, the de-weeding process that involves removing wild and invasive species from the forest and repairing or rebuilding stream bunds,” said Dr V Shubhalaxmi, head,CEC. Interactions with the local communities and park officials will also be organised.

Each participant will have to choose an environmental cause they would like to take up in their locality, prepare a plan to address it and how they would like the CEC to help with the same. “The idea is to give them exposure so that they can bring about a change in their own locality,in a cause they are interested in. We will mentor them in their chosen initiative through constant touch.”
