Globally celebrated conservationist and founder of the Jane Goodall Institute and UN Messenger of Peace, Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE, is all set to inspire the audience in Mumbai as part of her renowned “Hope Global Tour.”

Known for her groundbreaking work in primatology and unwavering commitment to conservation, the renowned zoologist and anthropologist continues to inspire millions with her advocacy for the environment even at 90. Her Mumbai visit promises to foster dialogue, action, and hope for the planet through a series of impactful talks and lectures, culminating in the closing session at Literature Live! The Mumbai LitFest on Sunday.

Her tour begins on Saturday with the Ocean Literacy Dialogues (OLD) at the CSMVS Museum. In collaboration with UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC), the British Council, and the CSMVS Museum, Dr. Goodall will deliver the inaugural Great Talk lecture, marking India’s first Ocean Literacy Dialogue.

This event, part of the UN Ocean Decade-endorsed “Ocean Literacy With All” programme, aims to ignite transformative discussions about ocean conservation. With its 7,500 km coastline, India’s pivotal role in safeguarding marine ecosystems will be spotlighted, addressing issues like marine threats, indigenous conservation knowledge, and the role of art in promoting ocean stewardship.

Shortly after, she will also be visiting the Museum of Solutions (MuSo) which had recently honoured her with an exhibition titled, Celebrating Jane. Her talk here will offer insights into chimpanzee behaviour, conservation efforts, and the power of individual action.

On Sunday, Dr. Goodall will deliver her iconic lecture, Reasons for Hope, at the closing ceremony of Literature Live! at the Tata Theatre, NCPA. Centred on four core pillars: the human intellect, the resilience of nature, the power of young people, and the indomitable human spirit, her lecture underscores the capacity of individuals to bring about meaningful change.

Highlighting youth-led conservation efforts, the conservationist on Monday will engage with participants of Roots & Shoots India at Godrej Industries’ headquarters. This flagship programme empowers young people to address environmental challenges through innovative solutions like urban rewilding and recycling projects. Special attention will be given to the Oceans Are Us, a Roots & Shoots initiative, fostering ocean literacy and conservation among youth.
