‘Disoriented’ female motorist rams into taxi on JJ, cabbie dead

Ashwi Sharma, 20, resident of central Mumbai was returning from a relative’s place in south Mumbai.

A 40-year-old taxi driver was killed after a Hyundai Verna coming from the opposite direction jumped the divider and collided with his cab on JJ flyover Sunday morning. The incident occurred at 8am when a 20-year-old woman, allegedly ‘got disoriented by another passing car which was going in a very high speed’ lost control.

Ashwi Sharma, 20, resident of central Mumbai was returning from a relative’s place in south Mumbai. “She failed to navigate a sharp turn near the Minara Masjid stretch, jumped the divider and rammed into the taxi driven by the victim Ramprasad Gupta,” said S Kavlekar, senior inspector of Pydhonie police station. Gupta was ferrying two passengers to south Mumbai.

Passersby soon contacted the Pydhonie police informed them of the incident. The police have recorded Sharma’s statement and arrested her under charges of causing death due to rash and negligent driving.
