Dismembered body of woman found dumped in Powai

Third such incident in as many months,cops still to identify victim.

In the third such incident in as many months,the dismembered body of a young woman was found dumped in Powai Sunday morning,the police said. The woman,whose identity is yet to be established,appeared to have been murdered and then burnt,police said.

According to police,the woman’s legs were chopped off and the body was burnt and dumped in a heap of garbage in an isolated lane near the Sailee Developers Compound in Customs Colony in Powai. The body was found by a constable on patrolling duty.

“The victim’s age could be anywhere between 15 and 30 years. The body was taken to Rajawadi Hospital for post mortem,” senior inspector Yadhavrao Jadhav of Powai police station said.

“We have sent the victim’s description to other police stations to check if they have registered any missing complaints. We have narrowed down on some of these complaints and are talking to complainants. We have not yet got a positive result,” he said.

On October 31,the headless body of a woman was found floating in a black plastic bag in Chirai Lake in Chembur.

The police said body was cut into four pieces and thrown at different locations in Chembur and Trombay jetty.

Following investigations,it was found the woman was a 36-year-old fashion designer named Kanta Shetty.

The police arrested Prabhakar Shetty,who had allegedly murdered her in a fit of rage at his Chembur home on October 30 after her repeated demands to marry her.

On September 24,part of a woman’s torso was found by a rag-picker in Bandra Reclamation area. The police had said the body had been hacked into pieces with a saw. They are yet to establish her identity.
