The SIT could not proceed further as no one, including leaders who had alleged that Disha Salian had been murdered, came forward to depose.

The Maharashtra government announced in the Assembly on Wednesday that the allegations made by Satish Salian regarding the death of his daughter, celebrity manager Disha Salian, in 2020 would be investigated by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed in December 2023 following similar allegations.

The SIT, established under then Additional Commissioner (North Region) Rajiv Jain, could not proceed further as no one, including leaders who had alleged that Disha had been murdered, came forward to depose, an SIT official said. However, the government said the SIT was still active and would now look into the allegations made by her father through his lawyer, Nilesh Ojha.

On Tuesday, Satish Salian met Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar and submitted a complaint alleging that his daughter had been murdered. Raising the issue in the House, Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad referred to the police complaint that named Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray, among others, demanding his resignation.

Minister Shambhuraj Desai said that various news reports had mentioned Thackeray’s name. “We, as a government, want to inform you that we will not spare anyone. Our MoS home has said that the SIT on this matter is still ongoing. If her father has named any person, the government will take all the information from the family. The SIT will gather all the information, and necessary action will be taken,” Desai said.

While Nilesh Ojha requested that an FIR be registered in the matter, the police have not yet registered a case. In 2023, the allegations were made by political leaders, but this time they have been made by Disha’s father, who had previously filed a complaint against leaders making similar allegations.

Satish Salian told the media that initially, he was not in the right frame of mind to consider the reasons behind his daughter’s death, but later he suspected that there may have been foul play involved. Lawyer Ojha has for the past few years been claiming that Disha was murdered.

After meeting the police commissioner, Ojha told the media, “We have given a written complaint against Aaditya Thackeray, Dino Morea, Suraj Pancholi and his bodyguard, Parambir Singh, Sachin Vaze, and Rhea Chakraborty. Parambir Singh is the mastermind behind the cover-up in the case.”

The Mumbai police previously investigated the matter and concluded it was a case of suicide, with no foul play involved.

Last week the CBI, which was probing the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, gave a clean chit to actress Rhea Chakraborty and other accused in the case. Rajput died by suicide a week after Salian’s death.
