Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the Patanjali Food and Herbal Park in Mihan in Nagpur on Sunday. The project will be a great help to the farmers cultivating oranges in the Vidarbha region, the CM said. The food processing unit, complete with sorting, grading and storage, will bring higher remuneration to farmers, especially orange growers, he said.
Nearly 30 per cent of oranges in the country are produced in the Vidarbha region.
“The project will help in processing not only oranges but also other fruits grown in the region. But for orange-growing farmers, it is a special opportunity as their farm produce will be procured, processed, and marketed. This will help them both in better livelihood and financial help,” Fadnavis said.
Earlier, Gadkari said, “The food park will require annually 800 tonnes of oranges for processing. The farmers will greatly benefit.”
“Apart from processing of oranges for packaged juices and pulp, even the orange peel and seeds will be utilized. The project got the nod nine years ago. But there were many hurdles in the past few years leading to delayed operation,” Fadnavis said.
Yoga guru Baba Ramdev and Patanjali Ayurveda Ltd director Acharya Balkrishna were present at the inaugural function. The Chief Minister said Patanjali Food and Herb Park was sought by several states. But they decided to have it at Mihan in Nagpur. As part of the project, there will be a nursery to grow quality saplings using the best seeds, CM added.
