Depressed over less marks in exam, medical student dies by suicide in Kandivali

A 22-year-old MBBS student allegedly died by suicide in Kandivali area of north Mumbai on Friday morning. The youth was depressed over scoring less marks in the exams and this may have triggered him to take the extreme step, the police has said.

Ajay Jangid allegedly hung himself with a dupatta from the ceiling fan in the hall of his house in Charkop, Kandivali (West).

Neighbours took him to Shatabdi hospital in Kandivali where doctors declared him dead.

The police were intimidated about the incident. Charkop police recorded the statements of the family and relatives of Jangid.

The relatives said Jangid was doing his second year MBBS in Vilasrao Deshmukh Medical College, Latur. He was depressed over scoring less marks in the first year exams. He was also undergoing treatment for depression, said a senior police officer. Jangid had been staying at his Mumbai home for the past two months and took the extreme step in the morning, the officer added.

The police have recorded an accidental death report and were checking if Jangid left any note or message in his mobile phone before ending his life. Police were also speaking to his friends and classmates to understand his recent state of mind.
