Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday said a committee of experts from NEERI and IIT has been set up to study the release of methane gas that is causing frequent fires at Deonar dumping grounds in eastern suburbs of the city.
NEERI chief scientist and head Rakesh Kumar and the experts from IIT-Bombay will study the Deonar fire and provide solutions to tackle the problems.
Fadnavis said soon, two fire extinguishers will be permanently stationed at the dumping ground. The CM was addressing the Chembur Citizens Welfare Association at the Chembur festival.
Fadnavis said BMC chief Ajoy Mehta has been asked to initiate action and provide a time-bound plan on measures to address the waste disposal and related issues at the Deonar dumping ground.
Mehta has informed the government that CCTV cameras will be installed at the ground immediately. In the first batch, 12 cameras are being installed.
