Police on Tuesday arrested a 28-year-old man for stabbing his father after he was denied dinner and for allegedly killing a neighbour who tried to intervene.

Dombivali police said the accused,Narendra Gaikwad, stays in Trimurtinagar area in Dombivli (East) and his parents stay in a room in the same colony. On Tuesday night,Narendra reached his parents’ house with a friend and asked for dinner to be served.

“Narendra’s father Prabhakar told him they themselves barely had enough to eat and could not cater to his whims. Narendra’s unemployment and inability to provide for himself had caused frequent arguments between father and son. Narendra’s friend left before Narendra and Prabhakar came to blows,” said inspector Arun Bhor.

Narendra allegedly grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed Prabhakar thrice. Meanwhile,Narendra’s mother raised an alarm, police said.

Santosh Karande (40),who stayed next door, intervened and tried to overpower Narendra. Narendra stabbed Karande in the arm and stomach. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead before admission,” said Bhor.

Narendra was handed over to the police by residents. He was produced in court on Wednesday and remanded in police custody till April 6. Prabhakar has been admitted to Sion Hospital.
