Legislative Council deputy chairman Vasant Davkhare on Wednesday directed the government to take a decision on old and dilapidated buildings in Thane at earliest.

Davkhare said the B K Agarwal Committee, appointed by the government to look into the issue, had submitted its report in November 2011 but the government had not yet taken any decision on its recommendations. The issue was pending since 2009 and the government should make an announcement during the monsoon session of the Assembly,he said.

BJP MLC Sanjay Kelkar demanded that old buildings in Thane be given higher FSI in line with additional FSI offered to old buildings in Mumbai.

In its reply, the government said it would take a policy decision in three months. Minister of State for Urban Development Bhaskar Jadhav said the government had set up the Afzalpurkar Committee to look into the issue of old and dilapidated buildings in Mumbai and the B K Agarwal Committee for Thane. He said that the government was considering the recommendations made by the committee.

Dissatisfied with the reply,Davkhare intervened and directed the government to take a decision at the earliest.
