The Bombay High court on Tuesday asked the state government to produce the order of a magistrate based on which two women, who alleged illegal detention, were sent to a corrective home in Chembur.

The petitioners are sisters who stated that they were rounded up by the Mumbai Police’s Social Service Branch (SSB) on suspicion of their involvement in a prostitution racket. While one of the sisters hails from Mumbai, the other is based in Delhi and was on a visit to Mumbai. The sisters have claimed compensation of Rs 1 crore each for their alleged illegal detention at Chembur’s Mahila Sudhar Gruha.

They said they were attending a party at Andheri’s Masala Curry restaurant. The restaurant was allegedly raided by the SSB led by ACP Vasant Dhoble.

Anand Jondhale, the counsel for the sisters, told the court that there was no written order of the magistrate remanding the two women to the corrective home.

Additional public prosecutor Usha Kejriwal, however, sought a day’s time to produce the magistrate order before the court.
