The special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court Monday rejected an interim bail application moved by an accused in the July 2006 Mumbai serial train blasts case,Mohammad Sajid Ansari. A prime accused in the 7/11 blasts case,Ansari has been in jail since his arrest in 2006 and wanted to meet his ailing mother.

While the special Judge Yatin D Shinde rejected his application,Ansari has been permitted to meet his mother for six hours on payment of Rs 10,000 as police escort charge. Jamiat Ulema e Maharashtra which is helping the accused with legal aide has agreed to pay the amount.

Ansari’s mother is suffering with multiple problems like high blood pressure and heart ailment, and is undergoing treatment in a suburban hospital. He had moved an application seeking interim bail for four weeks,so that he could attend to his mother.

However, special public prosecutor Raja Thakre opposed the application claiming that the charges against him were of a very serious nature. His lawyer Shahid Nadeem Ansari said,“Ansari, along with others, has been facing trial for over six years and has been in jail all this while. It was a genuine plea made before the court.”

Ansari’s sister died in 2012. Although,he was granted permission to pay a visit,he could not make it for the burial as the escort team had reached late.

On July 11,2006,RDX-laden bombs ripped through the first class compartments of seven local trains running on the Western Railways during peak evening hours. The blasts took place within a span of 11 minutes between 6.24 p.m. and 6.35 p.m.
