A special women’s court on Saturday framed charges against Bollywood singer Ankit Tiwari for allegedly raping a 28-year-old women on several occasions between 2012 and 2013.
Tiwari (24) was arrested by Versova police in May this year after the woman filed a complaint.
On Saturday, sessions court judge AS Shende read out charges of rape, engaging in sexual intercourse with a woman with the false promise of marriage, cheating and criminal intimidation against the singer.
Tiwari’s brother Ankur was also charged by the court with criminal intimidation.
The complainant, an advertising professional, had alleged that the singer had raped her several times since July 2013 after promising to marry her.
While the complaint had been lodged by the woman in February, an FIR was registered in March and Tiwari was arrested on May 8, before being released on bail on May 22.
The complaint alleged that Tiwari raped the woman at a party at her sister’s house in July 2013. When she confronted Tiwari, he allegedly promised to marry her only to back out later.
The woman further alleged that after Tiwari found that she is a divorced mother of a daughter, he demanded to end the relationship and Ankur also threatened her at knife-point.
