The Esplanade court Thursday directed the police to file an FIR against two officers who allegedly threatened a lawyer appearing for an accused in the August 22 Shakti Mills gangrape case.

Lawyer Moin Khan alleged that when he went to Azad Maidan police station to meet his client Mohammad Kasim Hafiz Shaikh (21),he was threatened against appearing for the accused.

Following an argument with police,Khan moved a private complaint before the magistrate, who ordered an inquiry against the police.

The police claimed that they had only turned down the lawyer’s demand to meet Shaikh. “The accused were kept in the lock-up and were not produced before the court. We could not have allowed him to meet the accused without the court’s permission,” said an officer from Azad Maidan police station.
