The BMC standing committee has demanded that the new mode of e-tendering that sought to usher in transparency in the awarding of civil work contracts be scrapped. The contracts pertain to petty works costing not more than Rs 5 lakh, such as minor road construction,or de-silting,that are taken up at the ward-level through the local municipal councillor’s development fund and ward committee fund.

Corporators have severely criticised the civic administration over the e-tenders issue, claiming that the system results in delays and discrepancies in awarding contracts. Many corporators claimed they were unable to use their annual allotted funds owing to technical glitches.

Standing committee chairman Rahul Shewale of Shiv Sena said,“We want a manual tendering system. We will take up the issue for discussion with the municipal commissioner and take at a decision soon.”
