In the second such incident in a week,Congress corporator Sheetal Mhatre allegedly slapped a junior engineer on Tuesday after he demolished an illegal toilet in her ward. On March 27,a senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) worker had allegedly slapped an executive engineer in Bandra.

Congress corporator from Gaondevi in Dahisar,Sheetal Mhatre apparently got angry when the junior engineer in Dahisar’s R North ward,Anand Nerulkar demolished a toilet she had commissioned. She accused him of demolishing the toilet without any prior notice. Nerulkar has lodged an FIR against Mhatre.

“The issue could be anything, but it should not have culminated like this. The official has lodged a complaint and there should not be any scope for an outside settlement as this is an insult to a public servant,” additional municipal commissioner Aseem Gupta said.

The incident is reported to have happened around 1.30 pm when Nerulkar undertook the demolition of illegal toilets in the commercial belt of Ganesh Nagar area in Dahisar. “The locals later appraoched Mhatre. Mhatre,in a fit of rage, stormed into Nerulkar’s BMC office in ward 30 and started throwing files around. She then grabbed Nerulkar’s collar and slapped him,” said Ashok Survegandh, senior inspector of Dahisar police station.

Mhatre was not available for comment.

“We have booked her for assaulting or using criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging his duty. She is absconding at present,” said Survegandh.
