A BJP corporator in the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has been booked for molesting a minor girl in Mira Road on Friday. No arrest has been made yet as the corporator has not yet been traced.
According to the police, the corporator, Ashwin Kasodriya (38), who represents the Shanti Nagar area in Mira Road West, on Friday afternoon allegedly inappropriately touched a teenaged girl who lives in the same apartment complex.
“The complainant is 13 years old and stays in the same building as Kasodriya. According to her compliant, at 1.30 pm on Friday, she was climbing down the stairs of her building when she met him. The girl greeted Kasodriya, who instead put his hand around her waist and pulled her to him. The scared girl shouted out and rushed to her home, and told her parents about the incident,” said an officer at Mira Road police station.
The officer added that the girl’s parents filed a compliant with the police at 7 pm on Friday. An offence has been registered against Kasodriya for molestation and criminal intimidation under the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
Kasodriya is yet to be nabbed more than 24 hours after the alleged incident. “He is not present at his home. We have to follow the process laid in the POCSO Act before proceeding with an arrest,” said Dhanaji Shirsagar, senior inspector, Mira Road police station.
Narendra Mehta of the BJP, MLA from Mira-Bhayandar claimed, however, that Kasodriya was sitting in his office on the ground floor of the same building when the alleged incident took place. “We can provide CCTV footage from Kasodriya’s office that shows that he was speaking to a few people in his office at 1.30 pm on Friday. The girl has said that she shouted out after he molested her, but why is it that no neighbour then came to her aid after hearing her cries? We are confident that the police investigations will prove that Kasodriya has done nothing wrong,” he said.
