Cop-turned-leader fires on sons for property,one dies

A quarrel over property took an ugly turn on Friday when a cop-turned-political-leader shot four rounds at his two sons,killing one of them,at their home in Parshva Apartments,Banganga,in Malabar Hill on Friday afternoon.

A quarrel over property took an ugly turn on Friday when a cop-turned-political-leader shot four rounds at his two sons,killing one of them,at their home in Parshva Apartments,Banganga,in Malabar Hill on Friday afternoon.

The former constable,Keshav Bhosale (64),has been booked for murder.

Bhosale had fought the Assembly elections first as an Independent. Thereafter,he joined the NCP and was suspended from the party. Later,he had joined the Congress.

Malabar Hill police registered a case of murder against Bhosale and said they received information about the shooting on Friday afternoon. DCP Sanjay Mohite (Zone 2) said,“Our officers found the sons of Bhosale,Rajesh (in his late thirties) and Ganesh (in his early thirties) in a pool of blood with gunshot wounds and an ornamental sword lying near the entrance to the house. Both had been shot twice. They were taken to Elisabeth Hospital. Ganesh who took a bullet in the abdomen and another on the head,succumbed to injuries. Rajesh,who suffered gunshots on the abdomen and cheek,is in a critical condition.”

Keshav,who was also wounded on the right arm with a sharp weapon,has been admitted to the Bhatia Hospital.

According to investigators,the sons,who did not reside with Keshav,had come to Parshva Apartment to attend the death anniversary ritual of their mother,Keshav’s first wife.

On Friday afternoon,Ganesh,Rajesh and their sister Usha reached the flat for the ritual. Shortly, the sons allegedly got into a quarrel with their father over their share of the property. Mohite said,“Bhosale owns a few shops in Malabar Hill area and as far as we know,his two sons had been demanding their share for several months now. As far as we know,the sons were not employed and received a monthly allowance from their father.” The revolver used in the shooting was issued from Bhosale’s hometown Khed,in Ratnagiri,cops said.

Senior Police Inspector Iqbal Shaikh of Malabar Hill police station said,“From what we have gathered so far,Bhosale was a police constable before he was dismissed over alleged involvement in some smuggling case. After that,he worked with several political parties and till recently,had been a Congress member.”

Bhosale’s family was unavailable for comment as their statements were being taken and the ‘panchnama’ was going on in the house. As per the police,Bhosale had a few criminal cases registered against him.

CHEQUERED CAREER
Keshav Bhosale hails from Khed in Ratnagiri district.
Contested Khed Assembly seat as an Independent in 1985 and defeated by the Congress’s T B Kadam.
Joined Congress and his wife,Asha,contested the Assembly seat on a Congress ticket from Khed in 1985. She was defeated by Shiv Sena’s Ramdas Kadam.
After Sharad Pawar formed the NCP,Bhosale joined and contested in 1999. Defeated by Ramdas Kadam.
Two years ago,suspended from the NCP when he attacked a reporter.
Later joined the Congress.
