The Mumbai Police Crime Branch has sought the custody of Tariq Parveen, a known aide of wanted terror accused Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar, in connection with an extortion case, which was registered last December. Parveen was earlier arrested from Mumbai by the Uttar Pradesh police. The crime branch is probing his role in a case where Shakeel Babumiyan Sheikh alias Chhota Shakeel, another close aide of Kaskar’s, personally made extortion calls to a city-based builder.

In December 2014, the crime branch arrested Ramnarayan alias Bachi Singh, a known Shakeel aide along with three others for allegedly extorting a Juhu-based builder to the tune of Rs 3 crore from November 2014. Crime branch sources said further investigations had also thrown up indications pointing to Parveen’s involvement.

“The complainant, in a statement that he later gave us, named Parveen as one of the people who was involved in the crime. We were verifying the allegations when Parveen was picked up by the Lucknow police in their case. He is at present in judicial custody. We have applied for his custody so that we can interrogate him in our case,” said a crime branch officer.

An AK-47 assault rifle and 96 cartridges were recovered from the guesthouse from where Azizuddin and his accomplice Akeel were arrested, while Parveen was a wanted accused in the case.

“Parveen’s interrogation in our case is significant as he is known to be one of the few loyal aides of Kaskar.
