An officer with Mumbai police was arrested Sunday for allegedly killing a 50-year-old man after an argument over parking in Dombivli.
Police said the accused,Amit Uttekar, was a sub-inspector attached to Vanrai police station.
Police said Uttekar, along with his cousin Ashutosh and friend Sameer Dabhade, had gone to Biryani Corner near Dombivli railway station and had parked their Alto car outside the joint.
They were waiting while a parcel was being prepared when the deceased,Fakhruddin Sheikh (50),reached the spot in his Tata Indigo.
Sheikh stayed in the area and used to park his car at the same spot daily. Sheikh told Uttekar to move the Alto. Uttekar asked him to wait. This sparked an argument, which turned violent. Sheikh left and returned minutes later with his wife, son and some friends, who were armed with rods and spanners, said Assistant Commissioner of Police (Dombivli Division) Rajan Ghule.
Uttekar allegedly snatched a spanner from one of the men and attacked Sheikh, who lost consciousness.
His family took him to a nearby private hospital while Uttekar and his group went to Dombivli police station and registered a complaint of attempt to murder against Sheikh and his accomplices.
However,Sheikh succumbed to severe head injuries in the hospital and a separate complaint of murder was later registered against Uttekar and his two aides.
The three have been remanded in police custody till May 30. A probe is on, Ghule added.
