A day after Congress leaders rebelled against the official candidates and voiced their dissent, the party suspended its functionaries Ajit Sawant and Vidyarthi Singh, while BJP Mumbai unit Raj Purohit’s relative withdrew her nomination.

Ajit Sawant and Vidyarthi Singh were suspended on Wednesday morning,a day after over 30 Congress rebels filed their nominations as Independent candidates after the duo made allegations against senior party leaders regarding the selection process.

While Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee president Manikrao Thakre said that Sawant appears to have been used by Opposition parties,a single line letter issued to both said they had shown indiscipline by speaking against party leaders and were suspended until further notice.

Meanwhile,Purohit’s daughter-in-law Hema Akash, who had filed her nomination papers from ward number 219 on Tuesday, has withdrawn her nomination. In a letter to the returning officer,Hema said she has been working for the BJP for several years and wants to withdraw the application without any pressure.
