In a bid to tackle the menace of cockroaches, the Central Railway (CR) has decided to use Bugsac insecticide in the local trains. According to railway sources, the insecticide would be sprayed in local trains at an interval of 10-12 days.
The railway authorities had been receiving complaints from commuters about the menace of rodents and insects. According to Shriniwas Mudgerikar, chief spokesperson,CR,in addition to the Bugsac spray,Baygon insecticide will also be sprayed every fortnight. The CR also uses phenyl to clean the luggage compartments as vendors carry vegetables, fish and other items. The CR has also decided to carry out cleaning of compartments at carsheds in Kurla,Kalwa and Sanpada every 10-12 days.
Railway officials said their efforts to curb the menace of rodents and insecticides would be futile,if they do not get help from commuters.
The CR officials are in touch with firms specialised in controlling the menace of insects and pests. These firms will advise the railways on effective insecticides and pesticides.
