CM Shinde to inaugurate ‘bow-string’ arch bridge connecting coastal road to Sea Link today

Vehicles will be allowed to ply on the bridge between 7am and 11pm from September 13 onwards.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, along with his deputies Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, will inaugurate the ‘bow-string’ arch bridge, which will connect the Mumbai Coastal Road and Bandra Worli Sea Link (BWSL), on Thursday.

Vehicles will be allowed to ply on the bridge between 7am and 11pm from September 13 onwards.

Officials from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said initially, the arch bridge will be made partially operational and will only cater to north-bound traffic. At present, the coastal road is operational only till Worli.

Civic officials said the connector will allow direct connectivity for north-bound vehicles till Bandra as vehicles will be able to directly enter the sea link bridge from the coastal road.

“Vehicles travelling towards north can directly avail the sea-link without exiting from the Worli interchange. Meanwhile, the point of entry for the south-bound vehicles traveling towards Nariman Point remains unchanged from Worli and Haji Ali,” said an official.

The arch bridges weigh around 4,000 metric tonnes (MT) and have an average length of 140 metre. Currently, the coastal road is operational between 7am and 11pm on weekdays.
