CM completes 100 days in office, moves into Varsha

Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, who had assumed office 100 days ago, moved into his official residence ‘Varsha’ bungalow at Malabar Hill.

Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, who had assumed office 100 days ago, moved into his official residence ‘Varsha’ bungalow at Malabar Hill on Friday.

Chavan had taken over from Ashok Chavan on November 11,2010 after the latter had to quit for his alleged involvement in the Adarsh society scam. Since then,Prithviraj Chavan had been staying at state guest house,Sahyadri, also at Malabar Hill.

On Friday, around noon,he shifted to Varsha alongwith wife Satvasheela, daughter Ankita and son Jay,who were in Delhi. The bungalow was revamped prior to his moving in,but he had insisted on a simple look without splurging money on lavish interiors and alterations.

Chavan is a Rajya Sabha member and is required to become a member of either house of the state legislature within six months of his swearing-in. He has already announced that he would become a member of the legislative council rather than contest an election for a seat in the Assembly. A Congress MLC is expected to vacate his seat for Chavan soon. The opposition, however, chose the occasion to slam Chavan and his government.

“This government has not done a single thing for the common man and is plagued by scams,” Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Eknath Khadse said. “The administration is nonchalant, ministers are arrogant and people restless¿ mafias are ruling the roost and they had gone to the extent of burning an additional collector alive.”
