Civil works for Kala Ghoda beautification near completion
The internal lanes set to undergo a facelift and eventual pedestrianisation include V B Gandhi Marg (Forbes Street), Ropewalk Lane, Saibaba Road, Rutherfield Street and B Bharucha Road.
The civic body had launched trial pedestrianisation in the area before beginning full-scale civil works in December last year.
Civil works for the beautification of the internal lanes of Kala Ghoda are nearing completion, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) commissioner Bhushan Gagrani said on Thursday. During a site review, Gagrani also directed that all eateries and restaurants in the area adopt uniform signboards.
Aiming to restore the old-city charm of Kala Ghoda — one of Mumbai’s most significant art precincts — the BMC had earlier this year drawn up plans to beautify and make the locality “pedestrian-friendly” by laying cobblestones along internal lanes. Once the project is completed, the corporation plans to permanently pedestrianise these streets.
