Civic body to train meritorious students for IITs

The civic body is running science courses in Bhawani Shankar Road School (Dadar- West),Ratanbhai Municipal School (Mulund) and Dikshit Road (Vile Parle). Pace Educational Service Private Limited and Yukti Educational Services Private Limited will be providing the training.

“Civic-school students who score 90 per cent and above are sometimes unable to afford science classes or go for specialized streams. The junior colleges will train these students and help them get admission to top courses,’’ said Municipal Commissioner,Jairaj Phatak.

He said that even if a small number of students get admission it would be worth the effort. “We do not mind spending Rs 50,000 on every child as private coaching classes charge you more than Rs 1 lakh,’’ Phatak said.

The BMC’s largesse for civic-school students will be extended to economically backward students from Thane Zilla Parishad and rural areas also. Phatak said that meritorious students from adjoining Thane rural will also be given admissions in these three junior colleges. “The lakes supplying water to the city are located in Thane and this way it helps Mumbai by sharing its natural resource. Therefore we have decided to extend the benefit of knowledge to Thane ZP school students,’’ he said.
