Double delight for Bhagat,Chandiramani
WILD card Manoj Chandiramani and Shyam Bhagat,both of Maharashtra,helped themselves to a double crown in the All India Open Ranking Veterans Tennis Tournament,organized and hosted by Khar Gymkhana.
Chandiramani,who entered the singles final with an upset win over second seed Arun Kantimahanthu of Andhra Pradesh,halted MSLTA coach and wild card Manoj Vaidya with a hard-fought 7-5,6-4 win for the 45+ crown after Vaidya squandered a 40-0 advantage in the crucial 10th game of the second set.
Later,Chandiramani combined with Sanjay Israni to snatch the doubles title in straight sets after the second set stretched into the tie-breaker. Unseeded Shyam Bhagat rallied from the loss of a tight opening set to shock fourth seed Ashok Jindal of Thane 6-7 (9-11),6-3,6-3 in an exciting championship round for the 65+ title. Bhagat and his partner Subhash Trilolekar earned the doubles title when second seeds Dr. Narmada Jharia and Laxman Ambulkar conceded a walk-over. Fourth seed Ajeet Bhardwaj of Delhi halted the winning streak of unseeded Amarjeet Singh Chadha of Rajasthan with a 6-3,6-0 win for the 55+ title.
Chadha and Jindal though made amends with the 55+ doubles crown following a 6-3,6-3 win over Tolu Devnai and Moti Shewaramani of Maharashtra,while another Maharashtra pair Rajesh Belani and Shravan Satyani won the 35+ doubles title.

Pol stars for Navi Mumbai
A match-winning performance by Ramchandra Pol enabled debutantes Navi Mumbai Police to beat Siyaram Poddar by three wickets and enter the final of the Times Shield ‘F’ Cricket Tournament at Azad Maidan over the weekend. Pol captured two wickets to restrict Siyaram Poddar to 193 in 44.2 overs. He then made a useful contributions with the bat to help his side chase down the total in 40.3 overs and with three wickets to spare. His half century came in only 39 balls,which included two sixes and five fours.

Ruparel to take on Jhunjhunwala
The stage is all set for the inter-college cricket tournament final for the Saqib Rizvi Memorial Trophy to be played between Jhunjhunwala College and Ruparel College. The two-day summit-clash will be played at the picturesque ground of Mumbai Cricket Association in Bandra-Kurla Complex on March 19 and 20.
